The third and last issue of our City and Archaeology - İzmir published in 2022, "İzmir Witnessing in the Ottoman Empire", brings together İzmir's tombs, mosques, masjids, waterways, architecture, production and industry. İzmir is one of the oldest settlements in Anatolia with its 8,500-year history, and is also located in the most strategic location in the world. The construction activities that laid the foundations of İzmir, which has survived to the present day, began with the move from Bayraklı to the foothills of Kadifekale in the 4th - 3rd centuries BC. Kadifekale, known as Mount Pagos, was captured by Aydınoğlu Mehmet Bey in 1317. The Turkish domination, which began with the capture of Kadifekale, was replaced by the Ottomans in 1424.
