The civilization that we live in as a part of has developed over a long period of time and reached its current state. However, we see this as a horizontal section in a single time dimension; since we cannot see the development process, we cannot perceive it correctly. We need to look at the civilization that we co-exist with in terms of time. Archaeology, in this sense, is a time laboratory that reveals with concrete evidence how we have come to the present day. How we use the laboratory varies according to our perspective as well as the scale we use. We can look at it in a narrow sense such as the ethnological evolution of a single tool, or we can use it to solve complex problems such as social organization. Özlem Çevik presents a study that will contribute to our understanding and definition of the origins of the urban phenomenon with this publication.
Our archaeological publications have generally remained within the narrow framework of the problems of style, definition and dating of objects that have survived from the past to the present, and have not addressed theories and interpretations that give meaning to these. In this respect, it is very pleasing that Özlem Çevik, one of our young generation archaeologists, has focused on cultural history by highlighting problems that lead to thinking about the process, such as "how?" and "why?". This publication, which deals with the urban phenomenon that has survived to the present day and in which we exist together, will attract the attention of everyone, as well as archaeologists, and will direct them to think.
