CURRENT ARCHAEOLOGY ISSUE 52 ISIS

In this issue, Aktüel Archaeology Magazine explains that the spiral of violence surrounding us in the 21st century, when the industrial age we call the modern world is at its most intense, has continued uninterruptedly throughout human history. In order to open the minds of those who base violence intensively on certain regions today, it gives examples of violence that have led to both individual and mass killings in many parts of the world and in different periods of history.
Violence, among all the concepts created by humans throughout the history of civilization, stands before the modern world as a wall that is not easy to overcome. Even though violence has decreased statistically compared to ancient times as humanity has developed, the multidimensionality and limitlessness it has gained in the modern world shows that violence surrounds humans as a goal rather than a tool. The concept of terror created by violence in the modern world threatens our future by capturing the fear of humans and societies. According to many scientists, the defense and attack used by all living species in nature to survive are considered instinctive violence. Today, humans use violence to be powerful, to control and to destroy.
Archaeologically, traces of violence against humans and animals can be detected. Could the complete destruction of Neanderthals, who lived in the same time period as Homo sapiens, have determined the place of violence in our evolutionary chain? The number of men who died of old age among hunter-gatherer societies is quite low due to the continuity and extreme violence of wars. It can be proven with archaeological data that groups of 20-25 fought fiercely for regional power, women, food or war tools in a vast empty world and committed great massacres.
The violent plunder economy in the pre-Neolithic and early Neolithic era left traces of great massacres. Complex societies and violence were strengthened by the power of the public sphere, allowing uncontrolled violence to spread. The male-dominated masculine language was processed in literary and mythological literature, creating a language of violence that is accepted today.
In this issue, Aktüel Archaeology Magazine explains that the spiral of violence surrounding us in the 21st century, when the industrial age we call the modern world is at its most intense, has continued uninterruptedly throughout human history. In order to open the minds of those who base violence intensively on certain regions today, it gives examples of violence that have led to both individual and mass killings in many regions of the world and different periods of history. Examples of violence experienced throughout history from France to Germany, from Africa to Greece are important examples that show that violence cannot be attributed to a people or region. Even the Scandinavian peoples, who are considered the most peaceful society in the world today, instilled fear in the world as a society of great violence a thousand years ago.
Today, it is almost impossible to be free from violence. Because the modern world we live in, which is mostly visual, constantly exposes individuals and societies to violent content, whether we want it or not. For this reason, violence continues to grow and become limitless, verbally, culturally, physically, psychologically, socially, individually, from the state to women, men, children, societies, countries, individuals, nature, other living beings, and to the human being himself.
With the wish that we live in a world free from violence...
