If we consider that people who started living in modern structures 250-300 years ago lived in caves for 100s of thousands of years, our past was both distant and long. According to known remains, the first shelters that people who started coming to Anatolia about 1 million years ago chose for protection and living were caves. Although most of them were destroyed or disappeared over time, caves hosted the first traces of humanity's culture and life dating back 100s of thousands of years.
Caves with a long history, where people struggled with other living things in nature to survive the difficult living conditions of the ice age. The first stone tools, pictures carved or painted on the walls, bone fragments left by both humans and animals, offer us traces of a past dating back 100s of thousands of years.
Although cave excavations in Turkey are not very popular or unknown, they are of great importance in terms of scientific knowledge and discovering humanity's first information on cultural production. Caves such as Karain, Suluin, Öküzini, Yarımburgaz show how difficult our distant past was with remains dating back 600-700 thousand years.
