Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi'nde Erken Demir Çağı ve Nekropolleri - Early Iron Age Fortresses and Necropolises in East Anatolia
Although archaeological excavations and surface research have been carried out in the Eastern Anatolia Region for approximately 120 years, the primary subject of these studies has been the Urartian culture and history. Studies on the period before the Urartian, especially the Early Iron Age, are quite insufficient. However, between the 13th and 9th centuries BC, cuneiform Assyrian sources mention about 60 kings (beyden) belonging to the Nairi and Uruatri Principalities in the Eastern Anatolia Region and the cities they resided in.
In order to fill this important gap, the main objective of the research we have been conducting in the Eastern Anatolia Region since 1997 is to present the architecture, burial customs and pottery culture of the period in a concrete manner, using data obtained from castles, cemeteries and civilian settlements belonging to the Early Iron Age, and to explain to what extent they influenced the Urartian Kingdom.
