Our country, with a coastline of 8,500 kilometers, is among the countries with the longest coasts in the world. These lands, where the first history, the first geography, the first seafaring, the first agriculture and the first animal husbandry were carried out, contain cultural heritage values that very few other countries can possess, both on their shores and in the depths of their seas. Considering that thousands of obsidians reached Cyprus from Anatolia by sea 11,000 years ago, that wooden boat oars dating back to approximately 8,000 years ago were found in the Yenikapı excavations in Istanbul, and that the largest preserved ancient shipyard in the world was discovered on Dana Island in Silifke, it will be understood that we have a rich maritime history accumulation that perhaps cannot be found in any other country. Undoubtedly, all these values are faced with a wide variety of risks. In order to prevent these risks, important steps are being taken by our Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). Unfortunately, some divers who dive with equipment are also included in these risk groups. With this book, it is aimed to transform the risk group in question from being a threat to a gain in the protection of underwater cultural heritage. Thus, the Turkish Underwater Sports Federation has become the first underwater federation in the world to support the protection of cultural heritage in this way. Every pallet thrown into the sea means the chance to reach a relic from thousands of years ago. It is the duty of every diver to protect these relics, to inform the relevant institutions as soon as possible and to bring them to science.
