The ancient city of Stratonikeia and the sacred site of Hekate of Lagina are one of the cities located in the inner part of the Caria region. One of the studies carried out in the ancient city and sacred site is the animal reliefs. In this book, 18 animals are discussed in 45 different depictions in 35 blocks identified in the city and examined here. 37 of these reliefs belong to the Augustus-Emperors Temple of Stratonikeia, the nymphaeum of the northern city gate, the gymnasium, the Latrina and the altar of the Hekate of Lagina temple and the northern stoa. However, the structure to which 8 of the reliefs belong is not known for sure at the moment. The examined figures date back to the Augustan Period and the 3rd century AD.
The depictions also provide information about the ancient fauna of the region. The examples discussed here are species identified in fauna studies conducted in the city. The animals whose reliefs were made were well known to the masters and it is understood that they did not come to the city from outside, that existing species took their place in the artistic transfer and that the fauna existing in the region stood out with local decorative elements in the search for a new style.
It is very difficult to say that there are one-to-one examples according to the processing of the figures. Ideology and propaganda are noticeable in the figures. It is thought that this ideology was made with local materials, workmanship and transfer in the city, and it has been determined that they are the product of the same idea as the animals seen in Rome-centered structures.
